Core Instructors of New Zealand (CINZ)

CINZ (The CORE instructors of New Zealand) is an affiliated society of the NZRC established to carry out, within New Zealand, the following aims:

  • To promote excellence within the structure and delivery of the CORE Framework.
  • To represent the views of members on matters relating to CORE and resuscitation education.
  • To share information about research opportunities, job opportunities and conferences in the area of resuscitation.
  • To provide a forum for discussion and advising the NZRC Education Board on modifications to the CORE Framework.
  • To provide educational support and resource information for providers of CORE courses.
  • To organise conferences and an annual meeting (to be held in conjunction with the NZRC Conference) that offers workshops related to CORE delivery.
  • To provide a “mentor pool” that can be used to support CORE instructors.
  • To undertake any other activities relevant to resuscitation in New Zealand.

Membership of CINZ is open to any instructor currently certified as a CORE instructor at the health professional level 6 or 7. Affiliate membership is open to any CORE instructor at levels 1, 2 or 3. All CINZ members are automatically also members of Association of Emergency Care Instructors (ASECI).

CINZ meetings will be held annually in Wellington.

The AGM for CINZ will take place at this time.

We urge your support for the CINZ concept and also to attend the annual meetings in Wellington. We welcome any questions that you may have regarding the membership and role of CINZ.

NEW ZEALAND RESUSCITATION COUNCIL GUIDELINES FOR MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION FOR INSTRUCTORS DELIVERING THE NZRC CERTIFICATE OF RESUSCITATION (CORE)

The maintenance of quality in CORE instruction is of paramount importance to the New Zealand Resuscitation Council Education Board. The Council looks to its certified instructors to maintain a high quality standard of teaching and assessment, and an adherence to the principles and regulations of CORE certification.

Ongoing CORE instructor status is dependant upon maintenance of certification requirements determined by the NZRC Education Board.

Annual Recertification Process for NZRC CORE 6/7 Instructors

  • The following summarizes the NZRC annual recertification requirements of CORE certified instructors.
NZRC CORE instructors are certified as CORE instructors for one year from the time of successful completion of the CORE Certification instructor course.
    • CORE 6/7 Instructors are eligible to instruct on any CORE course at any level equal to, or lower than that at which they are certified. However, CORE 6/7 instructors teaching on a CORE 3 course must be under the supervision of a fully certified CORE 3 instructor or, if teaching on a level 2 CORE course, under the supervision of a fully certified CORE 2 instructor. In order for annual recertification to be awarded, CORE 6/7 instructors are required to deliver a minimum of three CORE provider courses annually at least two of which must be level 4-7 provider courses.
    • At the conclusion of each course the Course Director must ensure the names of the instructors involved in the course and all course details are clearly written on the outside of the pre printed envelope provided by the NZRC. This information will be entered into the NZRC CORE instructor database and is used by the Education Board to ensure each instructor meets the requirements of conducting three CORE courses annually.
    • Once the Education Board is satisfied that all requirements have been met by the CORE instructor, recertification will be awarded.
    • A recertified certificate will be valid for one year.
    • Four Yearly Revalidation Process for NZRC CORE 6/7 Instructors

    • The following is the NZRC four yearly revalidation requirements.
      • The instructor has met the requirements for annual recertification, conducting a minimum of 3 CORE courses annually at least two of which must be level 4-7 provider courses
      • Attending at least two CINZ workshops in 4 years
      • If randomly selected has received satisfactory audit feedback
      • Delivery and assessment of CORE courses by the instructor must follow the rules and regulations set by the Education Board. Certification may be removed by the Education Board at any time if these regulations are not adhered to.
