CINZ Requirements

Maintaining your status as an instructor depends upon your meeting the requirements given here.

To be a member of CINZ, a CORE Advanced instructor must demonstrate that they are meeting the requirements of certification set by the New Zealand Resuscitation Council from the time of successful completion of the CORE Advanced Instructor course.

Where an instructor is having difficultly meeting the requirements or will be unable to deliver CORE Advance courses for a prolonged period of time, advise and assistance is available by contacting the NZRC office.

The annual requirements that are evaluated as at the 30th of June every year are as follows:

  •  The instructor delivers at least three CORE Advanced courses annually, in accordance with any rules and regulations set by the NZRC
  •  The instructor demonstrates networking and professional development by attending at least one NZRC professional development activity (e.g. NZRC Educator's Day and/or scientific meeting) or equivalent every two years. See the list below of approved professional development activities

The NZRC maintains a record that course instructors are fulfilling their requirements for ongoing certification after each CORE course. The Course Director must electronically return the fully completed learner participant sheet to the NZRC within one week of course completion to ensure this information is up to date.

CORE Advanced instructors are unable to take the role of Course Director within the first 12 months after successfully completing the CORE Advanced instructor Course.

Delivery and assessment of CORE must follow the rules and regulations set by the NZRC. An instructor may be moderated if selected as part of the evaluation process. The NZRC reserves the right to cancel an instructor's certification at any time if the instructor does not follow these rules and regulations.

Not meeting the requirements

Those CINZ members who do not meet the NZRC’s annual requirements may be asked to provide additional information or undertake remedial action.

Those who have not taught the required number of CORE courses during a 1-3 year period but want to reinstate their membership are encouraged to contact the NZRC in writing. Pathways to revalidation may be available. Once it has been shown how the instructor will again meet minimum requirements, an application for reinstatement will be considered.

A member who has provided no CORE courses within a 3 year period will no longer be recognised by the NZRC as a CORE Advanced Instructor.

Approved professional development activities

CINZ meetings and professional development activities usually occur at least every two years, and at the same time as New Zealand Resuscitation Council conferences. Members can stay notified of these meetings by subscribing to our updates. We encourage you to support the CINZ meetings and take the opportunity to network with colleagues.

While we recommend attending the CINZ meetings, we do acknowledge that you may not be able to make it on the day. The following are regarded as equivalent to a CINZ professional development activity for the purposes of CINZ members maintaining their CORE Advanced Instructor status:

  • New Zealand Resuscitation Council conferences
  • Australian Resuscitation Council conferences
  • European Resuscitation Council conferences
  • American Heart Association resuscitation conferences
  • International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) meetings
  • Any open New Zealand Resuscitation Council educational or research meeting
  • Any open Australian Resuscitation Council educational or scientific meeting
  • Attendance as a learner on advanced life support courses. Examples include Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS), Emergency Management of Surgical Trauma (EMST), Practical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training (PROMPT) course, or other conference on simulated emergencies
  • Any other conference, meeting, or other relevant event approved by the New Zealand Resuscitation Council.
